Atlanta Falcons Penalized
The NFL docked the Atlanta Falcons a 2025 fifth-round draft pick and fined the team $250,000 for violating the league's anti-tampering policy.
Falcons GM Terry Fontenot was also fined $50,000 individually.
The violations involved logistical and administrative actions like arranging travel plans after players agreed to terms, but did not involve improper contact before the legal negotiating window.
The Falcons acknowledged the penalties, cooperated with the review, and pledged to examine their procedures going forward.
Philadelphia Eagles Cleared
The NFL conducted an extensive investigation into the Philadelphia Eagles' signing of free agent Saquon Barkley but found no evidence of violating the anti-tampering policy.
The league reviewed phone logs, texts, and documents related to free agency strategy, and interviewed key individuals like Howie Roseman, Nick Sirianni, Barkley, and James Franklin.
While public comments from Franklin raised initial tampering concerns, Barkley clarified the coach had misconstrued the situation.
After a comprehensive review, the NFL concluded there was insufficient evidence to support a tampering violation by the Eagles in signing Barkley.
So in summary, while the Falcons faced penalties for administrative missteps, the Eagles were cleared of any wrongdoing in their pursuit and signing of the star running back Saquon Barkley.
