Travis Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, began his Jacksonville Jaguars career focusing on wide receiver during rookie minicamp, impressing coaches and teammates with his work ethic and skill. Head coach Liam Coen explained that the plan was to give Hunter extra reps on offense initially, allowing him to clean up details and get comfortable before integrating him into defensive work next week.

Hunter, known for his rare two-way ability at Colorado, is expected to play both wide receiver and cornerback for Jacksonville. Coen emphasized that while Hunter started camp on offense, he has already begun learning the defensive system, particularly the team’s three-deep coverages, and will start taking defensive reps as the offseason program continues.

Hunter himself acknowledged the challenge of mastering two NFL playbooks, noting, "You've just got to get used to it. It's just a lot of different types of calls, but other than that, the defense is pretty easy. You've just got to get used to the offense." He added that the organization expects him to contribute right away, and he’s committed to doing whatever it takes to get on the field.

Coen expressed full confidence in Hunter’s football intelligence and adaptability, stating, "He's a football-smart guy. The game makes sense to him. And so now it's just about putting in that time, that extra time that he's going to have to do in order to be successful to play even one side of the ball at this level. So he knows what's cut out for him coming up".

In summary, Hunter’s Jaguars journey is starting on offense, but his highly anticipated two-way role will soon be on display as he begins defensive reps next week, with the team banking on his versatility and star power to make an immediate impact.
