Russell Wilson is putting a pause on his playing career.

Is DangeRuss officially putting a pause on his playing career? Free-agent quarterback Russell Wilson is heading to CBS Sports, and it’s looking like his time under center might be over—at least for now.
Wilson, 37, is opening a new chapter in his football career despite having an offer to be a team's backup in 2026.
This comes right after a tough 2025 season with the New York Giants. Russ only started three games before being replaced by rookie Jaxson Dart and eventually leapfrogged by Jameis Winston, finishing the year with career lows across the board.
At 37 years old, Wilson actually had a contract offer on the table to back up Geno Smith on the New York Jets. It would've been a wild depth chart battle alongside rookie Cade Klubnik, but Russ turned it down to step behind the desk instead.
Perhaps a new opportunity over the coming year will sway Wilson into putting a pause on his new career as an analyst, or he returns in 2027 with a year of rest under his belt.
Instead of holding a clipboard on an NFL sideline, he’s officially accepted an offer to join CBS Sports for its Sunday pregame show and more. He’s completely opening a brand new chapter as an analyst
