The Los Angeles Rams have a draft strategy unlike any other team in NFL history. Since 2016, they have literally only made three first-round draft selections, trading away nearly every single one for proven superstar talent.
It all started when they traded up to draft Jared Goff at number one overall back in 2016. But after that, they went on a historic streak, trading away a staggering seven consecutive first-round picks between 2017 and 2023.
The most famous move in that stretch came in 2021. LA packaged Jared Goff along with three massive draft picks to the Detroit Lions to land Matthew Stafford, a blockbuster trade that immediately secured them a Super Bowl ring.
They finally made a selection again in 2024, drafting pass rusher Jared Verse. But true to form, they traded away their 2025 pick, and just recently traded Verse himself plus three more picks to the Browns in a blockbuster deal for Myles Garrett.
Which brings us to 2026, where they just used their first-round pick on quarterback Ty Simpson. Because of all their wild trades, Simpson is officially the only first-round draft pick since 2016 who is actually still on the Rams' roster today.
Goff is gone, Verse is gone, and only Simpson remains. Is Les Snead's 'F them picks' philosophy the greatest team-building strategy in NFL history, or is it a ticking time bomb?
