The Kansas City Chiefs have emerged as the NFL's last undefeated team at 6-0 this season. But can they break the trend of past teams that started strong but faltered in the playoffs?
This marks the third time under head coach Andy Reid that the Chiefs are the last undefeated team, previously achieving this in 2013 and 2017. However, both previous seasons ended in Wild Card Round exits.
Historically, 95.2% of teams starting 6-0 make the playoffs. However, being the last undefeated team does not guarantee a Super Bowl victory; only 10 out of 58 teams have achieved this feat.
The Chiefs are the final undefeated team despite Mahomes being tied for the most interceptions in the NFL with eight. Since the 1970 merger, the only other team to start 6-0 with a QB leading the NFL in INTs through their sixth game was the 2015 Broncos with Peyton Manning. The defense-led Broncos went on to win the Super Bowl.
As the Chiefs continue their pursuit of an elusive Lombardi Trophy, questions remain about whether they can overcome historical trends and Mahomes' interception issues. Will they rise above past disappointments?
