Miami, FL - Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins' star wide receiver, is already looking ahead to his next contract. Despite signing a four-year, $120 million extension with Miami after being traded from the Chiefs, Hill's $30 million average annual salary has been surpassed by three other receivers in the past three months.
The wide receiver market has seen a significant shift, with Justin Jefferson of the Vikings now leading the pack at $35 million per year[1]. Hill's teammate, Jaylen Waddle, also recently secured a hefty three-year extension worth $84.75 million.
Hill's current contract has him set to earn $19.665 million in 2024, which is the final year with guaranteed money. This timing suggests that negotiations for an extension could be on the horizon, as Hill looks to align his earnings with his elite status in the league.
Since joining the Dolphins, Hill has been nothing short of spectacular:
Two consecutive First-Team All-Pro selections
Continued his streak of Pro Bowl appearances (now at eight seasons)
Led the league with an average of 112.4 yards per game last season
Accumulated 1,799 yards, just shy of the coveted 2,000-yard mark
However, fitting Hill's compensation into the Dolphins' future plans could be tricky. The team has already extended Waddle and is in talks with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, whose market value has likely increased due to recent QB contracts like those of Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence.
Despite the financial considerations, Hill remains focused on team success. He emphasized that while a new contract would be nice, his primary goal is to bring a Super Bowl championship to Miami and leave a lasting legacy.
What do you think, Dolphins fans? Should Miami prioritize extending Hill, or focus on other areas of the team? Let us know in the comments!
