The New York Giants' head coach Brian Daboll has expressed uncertainty about Daniel Jones' future as the team's starting quarterback. Following a 20-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Germany, which dropped the Giants to a 2-8 record, Daboll was noncommittal about Jones' status as the starting quarterback.
Daboll stated that the team would evaluate everything during their Week 11 bye, including schemes, situational plays, and techniques. The Giants have lost five consecutive games, and Jones' performance has been a frequent topic of discussion in the New York media.
This season, Jones has thrown eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, with a passer rating of 79.4. The Giants considered drafting a quarterback with their No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 draft but instead selected LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers.
Veteran quarterback Drew Lock is the potential replacement if Jones is benched. Jones signed a four-year, $160 million extension in March 2023 after helping lead the Giants to a playoff berth in Daboll's first season as head coach.
Of Jones' $30 million base salary for the 2025 season, $23 million is guaranteed for injury. This situation highlights the Giants' struggles this season and raises questions about the team's future at the quarterback position, despite Jones' recent contract extension.
