J.J. Watt leaving the door open for a potential return to the Houston Texans

By: Sean Davis - 5/5/24

HOUSTON, TX - The Legendary J.J. Watt Leaves Door Open for Homecoming... In a move that is sure to have Texans fans buzzing, J.J. Watt has left the door open for a potential return to Houston!

After retiring following the 2022 season, Watt acknowledged that he would be willing to come back if the Texans "absolutely needed it". This comes as the team is enjoying a remarkable turnaround under new head coach DeMeco Ryans, who led them to the AFC South title in his first year.

Watt's impact on the Texans franchise cannot be overstated. When he joined the team in 2011, he instantly transformed them into a playoff contender, helping secure the franchise's first-ever division crown. Over the next five seasons, Watt cemented his legacy as one of the most dominant defensive players of his era, racking up 3 Defensive Player of the Year awards and 74.5 sacks.

Though a back injury in 2016 slowed his momentum, Watt returned to form in 2018, earning another All-Pro nod and leading Houston to another AFC South title. Now, with the Texans back on the rise, the idea of Watt suiting up one more time has to be tantalizing for the fanbase.

"I truly don't want that to ever be the case," Watt said. "I hope that everyone stays extremely healthy and dominates, and they don't need any other bodies. I can just watch and enjoy it from the couch."

Texans fans, keep your fingers crossed! If the team finds itself in need of a legendary pass-rusher to push them over the top, J.J. Watt may just answer the call one more time. This is a story worth following as the 2024 season approaches!
