Despite creating cap space by restructuring CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott's contracts, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says the team isn't planning a big splash in free agency.
Jones stated, "I'm not looking at free agency as a place to fill voids." Restructures created $56.6 million in cap space, and the money can roll over into next year if unused.
Cowboys could use cap space to keep current players, such as Osa Odighizuwa. Micah Parsons extension is possible and would create additional cap space. Jones dismissed criticism about waiting until the last minute to finalize deals.
Cowboys will evaluate external opportunities case-by-case. Last year, they watched Tony Pollard, Tyron Smith, and others leave in free agency. Focus is on complementing the Dak Prescott-led team.
Jones downplays free agency after last year's "all-in" comment was criticized. He said the team will "weigh" opportunities from outside. Contradicts with the team's "complement" strategy. The Cowboys have needs on the O-line, at running back, and on defense
Despite a 7-10 season and coaching changes, the Cowboys may not be active in free agency. We'll see next week if they stick to this plan.
