LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson rip Chip Kelly on their podcast

By: Sean Davis - 5/12/24

PHILADELPHIA, PA - LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson didn't hold back on their podcast, "The 25/10 Show," when discussing their time with Chip Kelly in Philadelphia. In a recent episode, they got real and unfiltered about their experiences during the Kelly era. Both McCoy and Jackson were teammates in 2013, Kelly's first season with the Eagles. However, their time with Kelly was far from pleasant. Jackson was controversially released the following offseason, which he described as a "coward-ass move," and McCoy was shockingly traded soon after.

It's no surprise that neither of these guys has any love for Kelly. In fact, they even reached out to some of their former teammates from the 2013 Eagles to get their thoughts on the coach. Jason Peters, Brandon Graham, and Jeremy Maclin didn't hold back when asked about their first impressions of Kelly.

But McCoy took it a step further and shared his personal opinion about Kelly's treatment of Black players. He claimed that Kelly was uncomfortable around them and treated them differently from white players. McCoy didn't shy away from addressing the racial dynamics within the team, highlighting that the majority of NFL players are Black. He even shared a story about Kelly telling a Black teammate, Roc Carmichael, to "be more presentable" because of his long hair.

McCoy also brought up an incident involving his teammate, Riley Cooper, who used a racial slur towards a Black security guard at a concert in 2013. Cooper was fined and underwent sensitivity training, but McCoy believed that Kelly kept him away from the team's facilities for several days to avoid any further controversy. Despite this, McCoy admitted to having a good relationship with Cooper.

It's clear that McCoy and Jackson have some strong opinions about their time with Chip Kelly. Their podcast episode sheds light on the uncomfortable dynamics and racial tensions that existed within the Eagles during that era.
