RALEIGH, NC - DJ Burns, the star player for NC State, has not only led his team to their first Final Four appearance since 1983, but he has also captured the attention of NFL scouts. According to Peter Schrager of NFL Network, multiple NFL executives see Burns as a potential offensive tackle in the NFL. Although it remains uncertain whether Burns has any interest in pursuing football, it is reported that he would attract a significant turnout if he participated in a pro day.
Standing at an impressive 6'9" and weighing 275 pounds, Burns would undoubtedly be one of the tallest players in NFL history. However, he would likely need to bulk up his frame to withstand the physical demands of the NFL, as most linemen weigh close to 300-pounds.
Despite his basketball-focused career, Burns has been on the radar of college scouts since his freshman year of high school when he stood at 6'8". He eventually signed with Tennessee as a highly regarded 4-star recruit in 2018 before transferring to Winthrop and then NC State in 2022. Throughout NC State's surprising journey to the Final Four, Burns has emerged as a star player and the face of the Wolfpack.
In their recent victory over Duke, Burns showcased his skills with an impressive performance of 29 points, four rebounds, and three assists. His agility and quick footwork have caught the attention of NFL scouts, who recognize his potential to explode off the snap.
While Burns possesses exceptional court vision for a big man, he has not received much attention from the NBA. He could choose to pursue a career in the G League or Europe if he wants to continue his basketball journey. However, if he believes that football offers more financial opportunities, participating in a pro day workout could be a worthwhile.
