DETROT, MI - The 2024 NFL Draft kicked off with a bang, as all 14 initial picks were offensive players, setting a new record streak in the Common Draft era. From USC quarterback Caleb Williams to Oregon State's Taliese Fuaga, the offensive trend was unbroken until UCLA's Laiatu Latu broke through as the first defensive player taken at 15th overall by the Colts.
Six QBs in the first round ties the 1983 record
Fourth time QBs were taken with each of the first three picks
First time four QBs were taken in the top eight
First time five QBs were taken in the top 10
First time six QBs were taken in the top 12
First time all offensive players went in the top 10
Eight OTs in the first round ties the 2008 record
Seven WRs in the first round ties the 2004 record
This draft was full of surprises and record-breaking moments, with a total of 23 offensive players selected, setting new highs in various categories. Only time will tell how successful this first-round class will be, but one thing is certain - history was made on Thursday.
