Steelers LB Patrick Queen says he "wasn't wanted back" by the Ravens

By: Sean Davis - 11/14/24

Patrick Queen, now a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, recently reflected on his transition from the Baltimore Ravens, stating that he "wasn't wanted back" by his former team. As he prepares to face the Ravens for the first time since his departure, Queen expressed mixed emotions about the situation. He noted that after spending four years with Baltimore, it was upsetting not to receive an offer to return, especially after developing strong bonds with teammates.

Queen was a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and was expected to be a key player in the Ravens' defense. However, after four seasons marked by inconsistent performances—highlighted by a career-low Pro Football Focus grade of 29.7 as a rookie and a Pro Bowl selection in 2023—the Ravens opted to build their future around Roquan Smith instead of Queen.

Despite the difficult transition, Queen has started to find his footing in Pittsburgh. After a slow start, he has recorded 32 tackles over his last four games, including three for loss, and has seen improvements in his coverage grades. He acknowledged that he needed to refocus and improve his performance, stating, "I just had to look in the mirror and just say I had to get back to myself." As he prepares for the game against his former team, Queen is determined to contribute to his new team's success while navigating his feelings about leaving Baltimore behind.
