The Eagles Ink three-year, $75 million deal with WR DeVonta Smith

By: Sean Davis - 4/15/24

PHILADELPHIA, PA - DeVonta Smith has secured his future with the Philadelphia Eagles well beyond 2024. Eagles GM Howie Roseman made a strategic move integrating Smith's fifth-year option into a long-term deal. Smith has agreed to a lucrative three-year extension worth $75 million, with an impressive $51 million guaranteed.

Smith's arrival in Philadelphia was highly anticipated, given his stellar performance at Alabama, where he achieved two national titles, the Heisman Trophy, and a unanimous All-American selection. Despite concerns about his slender frame, Smith has proven himself as a difference maker. He holds the record for the most receptions (240) and receiving yards (3,178) in the first three seasons in Eagles history. He has also recorded the third-highest number of receptions in a single season in 2022 with 95 catches. Not only is Smith a reliable target, but he also possesses the ability to stretch the field and get YAC yards. His versatility and skill set have lead to the Eagles' decision to secure him for the long haul.

By including Smith's fifth-year option in the deal, the Eagles have strategically managed their finances. This means that Smith's average annual value of $25 million per year won't come into effect until 2026. With two consecutive seasons of over 1,000 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, it's clear that Smith's performance on the field justifies the investment.
