The New York Giants are one of the most storied franchises in the NFL, with eight championships and a rich history dating back to the 1920s. However, despite the team's success on the field, they have a less-than-stellar record when it comes to starting black quarterbacks.

In fact, the Giants have only ever started one black quarterback in their entire franchise history: Geno Smith. Smith was the Giants' starter for part of the 2017 season but was ultimately replaced by Eli Manning, who had been the team's starter for over a decade.

This lack of representation at the quarterback position is not unique to the Giants, as the NFL as a whole has a history of undervaluing and sidelining black quarterbacks. However, it is a notable omission in the Giants' history, especially considering the team's success and the fact that they have had numerous successful black players at other positions.

The New York Jets (in comparison) have made efforts in recent years to become more diverse and inclusive, and the hiring of new head coach Robert Saleh, who is of Lebanese descent, is a step in the right direction. However, it remains to be seen whether the Giants will finally give a black quarterback a fair shot at the starting job.

The Giants starting QB Daniel Jones is injured this week, and the team is starting Davis Webb instead of Tyrod Taylor today against the Philadelphia Eagles at 4:25 pm.
