Travis Hunter, the newly-crowned Heisman Trophy winner, faces a unique and potentially lucrative decision as he enters the NFL Draft. Known for his versatility, Hunter excelled at both wide receiver and cornerback at Colorado, playing over 1,443 snaps this season. He recorded 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns, alongside four interceptions and 11 passes defended on defense.
Hunter's dilemma is choosing his NFL position. While he desires to play both roles professionally, the physical demands of the NFL might necessitate a choice. Financially, wide receivers earn significantly more than cornerbacks; the top five receivers average $32.2 million annually, compared to $21.89 million for cornerbacks.
Despite the position choice not affecting his rookie contract, which is determined by draft selection, Hunter's long-term earnings could be influenced by his role. Currently projected as a top-five pick, he stands to sign a lucrative rookie deal.
Hunter has already capitalized on his collegiate success with over 20 NIL deals, including recent agreements with Adidas and other major brands. As he prepares for the NFL, Hunter's decision will impact both his career trajectory and financial future.
